Services Offered at Hope Community Library

Wireless Internet Access:

Free Wi-Fi service is accessible 24/7. Patrons may use the own devices inside or outside the library when the building closed.

DVDs:

Patrons may check out three DVDs for seven days. 

Interlibrary Loan:

If the library doesn’t own the book or movie a patron wants, it can be borrowed it from another library at no charge.

Rotating Books:

More than 300 books from North Central Kansas Libraries are exchanged every two months.

Outside Book Return:

There is a drop box on the front porch of the library for after-hours returns. We ask that DVDs are put in the top slot so that books are not dropped on them and they break.

Public Computers:

Computers are available for use during regular business hours. The are available on a first come, first served bases. However, if a computer is needed for working or school it will take priority over games.

Copy or Prints:

The library charges 10¢ per page for page for black and white copies and 25¢ per page for color. This pricing goes for scanned copies and printed pages.

Audio Books:

The library is part of Sunflower eLibrary that provides access to e-books and audio books through an app called Libby. You can get a state library card through HCL to access many other apps and sites such as CloudLibrary.

Story Times:

We offer story time for preschool ages and under on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 9:45. This time might change with new school years depending on school schedules. We encourage all families with young kids to join us for snacks, stories and crafts. Our story time is sponsored by the Herington/Hope Parents as Teachers program.

Summer Reading Program:

We provide fun summer reading challenges for all ages and crafts and activities for children. We are hoping to integrate more adult events also. Please keep an eye on our Facebook, website and signage for specific dates each year!

Adult Programs:

At this time we offer a Book Club for adults to join. We are working to add more events and craft opportunities as we settle into our new space!

Children's Programs:

Several programs are scheduled throughout the year, including crafts, holiday events and more. Watch the Facebook page or signage for details. 

Farmers Market:

In the summer the Library hosts a community farmers market put on by HCPC and Kimmy Richardson. We also show a free movie on our outdoor big screen for the community on the lawn behind the library.

Kansas Library Card:

A Kansas library card allows patrons to check out electron books. See the library director to obtain a state card. 

Newspapers:

The library has a subscription to the Dickinson County News Times. We get a new print at the end of every week. If there are other newspapers our patrons may be interested in please let us know!

Games:

HCL has a variety of board games and card games all patrons are welcome to enjoy! At this time they can not be checked out but we are happy to share them during business hours.

The first time you go to the site, there is a box in the middle of the page called MEET LIBBY.  Click on “Learn More Here.”  This will show you the process.

State of Kansas eCard:

State of Kansas Library has several different apps.

Website:  https://library.ks.gov/home

You will need a State of Kansas Library card number (available at HCL). 

KSL Number: ex 999999

AND password (your birthday mm/dd/yyyy): ex 01/01/2020.

Click on DIGITAL BOOK eLENDING.  There you will see several different apps for either eAudiobooks or eBooks.  Each one is a little different and has instructions for use.  When you click on the instructions, you will learn if the app is compatible with your device.

Card Catalog Instructions:

Hope Community Library has access to an On-Line Card Catalog that lists our available books and other books around the state.

Visit the Hope Community Library and register for a Library Card.

After you have received your card,  visit the on-line catalog.

Select Hope Community Library from the drop down menu on the right hand side to search our books.

This is also the place where you can access your account by selecting “Log into your account” on the top right corner.
